It is very difficult to rig an election in the United States of America, the country’s Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Robert P. Jackson has said.
America heads to the polls on Tuesday, 8 November to elect their 45th President and 48th Vice President.
With the race to the Whitehouse heating up, Mr. Jackson has allayed fears of a possible rigging, a concern raised by the Republican Party’s candidate Donald Trump.
According to the American diplomat, it is impossible to rig the polls.
“The reality is that with 50 different systems, it is very difficult to rig an election and as people have looked at electoral fraud in the United States over the years, they have found that the percentage of fraud is infinitesimal – .009 per cent or less. It’s a really minor issue. There are lots of safeguards in the system which doesn’t mean the system is perfect. The system may have its flaws but the fact that each state has a different system makes it very hard to rig the election or to have widespread fraud,” Mr Jackson told Dr. Etsey Sikanku on Class91.3FM’s America Decides programme on Friday, 4 November.
Mr Trump is battling Hillary Clinton of the Democratic Party for the presidency.
