Embattled high Court Judges, Paul Uuter Dery and Mustapha Habib Loggo, have sued the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) for conferring best journalist of the year award on Anas Arememay Anas.

The two judges claimed the award is an endorsement of unethical journalism and pray the Court strips Anas of the award and the GJA charged for contempt.

Justice Dery had earlier petitioned the GJA asking it to withdraw the award from the investigative journalist because in his view, Anas’ judicial corruption piece that won him the award is under contention.

He threatened that failure to heed to his call will result in a law suit.

But Affail Monney prior to the suit told Citi News, the association won’t yield to such demands, and is thus ready to defend its actions in court.

He explained that “Anas doesn’t need any superfluity of proof to show his international solidity and his national competence when it comes to investigative journalism and he has received a litany of awards for what he has done.”

“He is one of the best investigative journalists the world has ever produced. In the wisdom of the association, Anas stood out, nationally and internationally as the best. As far as we are concerned, what happened has been consigned to history,” he added.

Below are reliefs being sought by Justices Dery and Habib Loggo:

A declaration that the conduct Ghana Journalist Association on 27th August 2016 by which the GJA at its 21st award ceremony gave the overall best journalist 2015 award to Anas Aremeyaw Anas for his exposé on so called judicial bribery and corruption when cases are pending in the Supreme Court and the high court over the subject matter of the exposé of judicial bribery and corruption amounts to contempt of court pursuant to clause 12 of Article 19 and clause 2 of Article 126 of the 1992 constitution.

An order nullifying the award pursuant to clause 2 of article 1 of the 1992 constitution.

An order directed at the Ghana Journalist Association to withdraw the award from Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

An order pursuing the executive committee members of the Ghana Journalist Association for contempt of court.
