There was confusion at the final funeral rites of a 48-year-old trader, Beatrice Ama Osah, when some members of her family refused to pour libation to stop the ghost from haunting her husband, Samson Kwabena Ohene.

Ama Osah was allegedly beaten to death by the husband for switching off their ceiling fan in the night because she was feeling cold.

The confusion started when family members of the deceased stormed the venue for the burial service near the Dansoman Market in Accra on Saturday, and prevented Ohene’s family head, Opayin Yaw Frimpong (who had travelled from Kwahu in the Eastern Region) from performing the marriage rites and the pouring of the libation.

These generated into heated argument between the two families, which resulted in a brawl as members of both families pelted each other with stones and metals.

The development halted the burial ceremony for hours as some sympathisers run for cover.

It took some elders in the area to intervene before the casket was conveyed to Kwahu for burial without the performance of the marriage rites and the pouring of the libation.

Earlier, the deceased family had agreed to allow the relatives of Ohene to perform the marriage rites before the burial ceremony as traditions demands to pave way for libation to be poured to stop the deceased from tormenting Ohene.

The decision, however, did not go down well with family members and friends of the deceased, and they opposed the pouring of the libation.

The Ghanaian Times learnt that the family of Ohene was asked to buy the casket and provide money for the funeral, and the family assured that they would allow the pouring of libation to stop the ghost of Ama Osah from hunting Ohene but that did not materialise.

It is recalled that The Ghanaian Times on Thursday, July 21 published a story about Ama Osah a trader at the Dansoman market, who was allegedly beaten to death with a stool by her husband, Ohene, for switching off a ceiling fan in the room because the weather was cold.

Ohene attacked the wife a with a chair until she became very week, but she managed to go to the market the following day.

On her return home, Ama Osah complained of headache and Ohene rushed her to the Dansoman Polyclinic, but she was referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ohene who is currently in police custody has two children with the deceased.
