The Trades Union Congress (TUC) says it is looking forward to working with the incoming government of President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo to ramp up Ghana’s economy.

In a press statement released Sunday, December 11, 2016, the TUC also congratulated Ghanaians, the Electoral Commission (EC) and civil society groups for peaceful elections on December 7 and for demonstrating political maturity.

“We congratulate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP on their electoral victory. The TUC and Organised Labour stand ready to work with the new administration to ensure that the economy of Ghana continues on a path of growth and that the interest of workers and their families are fully protected,” said the release signed by TUC General Secretary, Yaw Baah.

TUC further said it is looking forward to working together with the new administration to ensure that the most vulnerable groups in society and in the Labour market are well protected – including people with disability, domestic workers, informal economy workers, women and young workers.

Read the rest of the TUC statement below:

“To H. E. President John Mahama, we say ayekoo! You have demonstrated that you’re truly a man of peace. Your timely concession of electoral defeat has kept the peace we are all enjoying today. We noted that in your concession speech you acknowledged the contribution of Organised Labour in the development of Ghana during your administration. We appreciate that very much.

We can assure you that we will work with the new administration to build on what we achieved together especially in the implementation of the single spine pay policy and the three-tier pension system. We wish you very well in all your future endeavours!

“We would like to congratulate the Electoral Commissioners and the staff of the Commission, the Peace Council, Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), and foreign observers who contributed to a very successful election and peace and stability in Ghana.

“Finally, we would like to thank all the security agencies for ensuring peace in Ghana before, during and after the elections. They have made us proud as workers. All the security agencies deserve to be rewarded handsomely for their commitment and dedication to duty. We believe that together we can push Ghana forward in a positive direction.

“Long Live Ghana.”
