US Ambassador to Ghana Robert P. Jackson has said that America’s President elect Donald Trump will deport illegal Ghanaian immigrants from the country. This is sure to be a matter of concern to Ghanaian immigrants who have overstayed their visas in the US.
The US Ambassador made this remarks while speaking to Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson, in an exclusive interview, after Mr Donald Trump emerged winner of the U. S. election on Wednesday, November 9. During the interaction, Mr Robert Jackson said that Mr. Trump is likely to be more rigid about illegal immigration.

He continued that immigrants in that category should be concerned especially as the billionaire assured he will scrutinize immigration policies during his campaign. He however assured that, the U. S will still remain friends with Ghana regardless of whatever government comes into power after the December 2016 elections.
With respect to trade and economy, Robert Jackson said that Ghana is more supportive of free trade and shares a long history of peaceful existence, unlike some African countries.
Last week, US deported some 54 Ghanaians and 50 Liberians, for various offences ranging from; drug forgery, illegal entry, assault and other non criminal offences. Upon arriving the Kotoka Airport, the deportees had refused to disembark, stirring an altercation between them an immigration officials.
They claimed the U. S. officials were being hypocritical in their deportation as they were not treated with dignity while on board the plane en route to Accra.
