Two are receiving treatment at Tema General Hospital with the other receiving treatment at New Crystal Hospital at Ashaiman, Joy FM’s Kwame Yankah reported.

Officials of the National Petroluem Authority have visited the victims Monday morning and found the injuries were not life-threatening.

The cause of the blaze has not been confirmed although initial reports suggested the fire might have resulted from an attempt to transfer gas from one tanker to another.

It took 11 fire tenders and at least 35 firefighters three hours to douse the raging flames Sunday morning at a fuel storage depot at Ashaiman Timber Market near Tema.

Chief Executive Officer of the NPA who addressed the media after touring the tanker yard noted that reports on the cause have been inconsistent but expressed confidence in the Fire Service to make a determination on the cause of the disaster.

He said a new by-law, the Bulk Road Vehicle (BRV) regulation which takes full effect in March, will nip some of these occurrences in the bud.

The gas-related disaster is the second reported in two months. Three days to Christmas, a gas explosion at the Louis Gas Station behind the Trade Fair Centre at La in Accra left at least six burnt to death.

The NPA found out ‘irresponsible human error’ on the part of the operators of the gas tanker caused the disaster.

The Authority promised to enforce safety regulations deemed lax.
