(Accra, GNA) – Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has charged the post Senchi Implementation Advisory Group (IAG) to sick strictly to the Senchi roadmap in order to achieve its intended objectives.
He said the execution of the Senchi accord must lead to the nation overcoming her short to medium term economic challenges as well as lay the foundation for economic and social transformation.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur said this when he inaugurated the post Senchi Implementation Advisory Group in Accra.
The IAG was setup following the recommendation by stakeholders at the Senchi forum that it should be responsible for guiding the implementation of the recommendation of the conference.
Consequently, the IAG was established by the Office of the Vice President with the mandate to co-ordinate and monitor the implementation of the Senchi consensus.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur said since April, this year, the Government had engaged Ghanaians to develop various plans and measures to restore the macro-economic stability that had been lost in the last two years.
He said the Senchi forum, attended by the various social partners, was to restore the credibility of the economy as well as macro-economic stability adding that the restoration of policy credibility was at the fore of all the issues discussed.
He said the transparency and the implementation of the decisions taken during the Senchi forum seemed to be the most important challenges that faced the economy.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur urged the IAG to ensure that the data arrived at during the Senchi meeting were made available to the people to enable them to offer meaningful suggestions to tackle the economic problem.
He said the Senchi forum was the beginning of a process that sought to unite the entire nation behind a common objective that was important to the country.
He called on the AIG to come out with measures to tackle fiscal deficit, the wage bill, and controlling and better targeting of government subsidies to achieve its intended purpose.
Dr Nii Moi Thompson, Senior Economic Adviser, Office of the President, said the Senchi meeting was as a result of a popular call by the people, especially the Trades Union Congress, for Government to facilitate a forum where Ghanaians could share their views and experiences and to collectively contribute to overcome the short-term macro-economic challenges.
He said because of the large number of recommendations and the fact that some of them overlapped, a decision then was taken to split them into three strategic objectives focusing on the catalytic recommendations.
