Finally, the management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital have admitted to oxygen and water shortage at the facility which has been described as a major challenge confronting the facility.
The situation was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr. Prosper Akanbong during their annual review and performance session held in Tamale.
In the meeting, the CEO revealed that for the past year, the hospital could not depend on the hospital’s oxygen plant due to its ineffectiveness thus, has to transport oxygen cylinders to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to purchase oxygen for the patients at the hospital.
This he said has made work cumbersome for the hospital to deliver to its expectation.
It could be recalled that, an investigation done at the hospital by Rainbow Radio’s Northern Regional Correspondent, Prince Kwame Tamakloe revealed that the hospital was defrauded after being given an old oxygen plant of a district hospital standard for a new one by one foreign company known as Saimed Company limited.
As a result of this, the plant could not serve it’s purpose and has always broken down making oxygen supply a major challenge at the hospital.
Furthermore, Dr. Akanbong mentioned that water supply to the hospital by the Ghana Water Company has also not adequately done and added that the hospital would have to purchase at least two tankers of water daily to serve the hospital.
He said these pose a lot of pressure on the hospital’s revenue, but the CEO and his management are optimistic that the situation in no time would be put under control
