A senior lecturer at Kumasi Technical University and economist, Kusi  Boafo, noted that technical education, when given the needed attention would be the only avenue to train the teeming youth to create jobs for themselves and not wait on government for white-colour jobs.

Interacting with TV3 during a symposium on Wealth Creation, and a graduation ceremony at the Wealth Creation and Social Development Training Centre at Old Tafo in Kumasi, Mr Kusi Boafo, said technical education was established to provide skilled human capital to generate resources for the development of the Country, but this aim has been neglected.

He reiterated that technical and vocational education was an important catalyst for economic transformation, preparing middle level professionals and equipping them with the requisite competence for the job market.

The Training Centre was established by the Member of Parliament for Tafo/Pankrono, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei about ten years ago to give employable skills to the youth in the area.

So far more than 5,000 youth in the area have been trained and given start-up capital and machines by the MP as his contribution to the reduction of youth unemployment in the area.

The MP who is also the Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation reiterated government’s commitment to devote more attention to technical and vocational education.
