Sheer Corruption Led To NDC’s Defeat

Even as NDC is trying to understand the reasons behind its serious defeat in the just concluded polls, the country’s former president, John Rawlings has linked the party’s defeat to corruption.

According to him, NDC’s defeat was as a result of the corruption of government officials who are also uncouth and uncultured. He added that Mahama’s administration had already lost the elections even before December 7th, but it was unable to see it as a result of the arrogance of power which blinded the administration.

Speaking at the occasion to mark the 35th Anniversary of the 31st December revolution, the ex-president said the outgoing government had deviated from the principles of the NDC, hence the defeat.

Mr Rawlings Stated that instead of the party to face the “impunity, disrespect, and corruption” by government officials that cost its defeat, it is trying to make him the scapegoat.

While it is no secret that Mahama and the Ex-president have not enjoyed the best of relationships, since Mahama’s defeat, this is his most critical statement.

Regarded as one of the greatest leaders of Ghana, Rawlings spared no words for some members of the Mahama’s administration whom he described as “uncouth”, “corrupt”, and “uncultured”.

It is time for the party to show remorse to the country so that the people can forgive it and forget the betrayal. He said this was the only way forward for the party if it seriously wants to recover and reorganise ahead of the 2020 elections.

Although there were no members of the Mahama administration except the Greater Accra Minister Afotey Agbo, the ex-president was surrounded by cadres and gurus in the PNDC era including, Martin Amidu, Goozie Tandoh, Alhaji Hudu Yahya.

The event was meant to mark the 31st December 1981 Revolution which returned the Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings to military power after a successful uprising which led to the overthrow of the Supreme Military Council.
