See How Much Government Gives Each Assembly For Celebrations!

As Ghana At 60 Independence day celebration looms, the government has shelled out the sum of GHc 10,000 to each District, Municipal Metropolitan Assembly (MMDAs) in order to aid their respective preparations for the D-day.

Contributions from the Ghana Business Community has long begun and would reportedly cost the country nearly GHc 20 million. The likes of Unibank, Ghana Chamber of Mines, UMB, OminiBank, GCNet and more have contributed their quota towards the commemoration of the 60th anniversary.

The government has ensured it would discourage extravagant spending and that the funds would be channelled towards building monumental projects including community libraries.

The Government’s GHc 10,000 donation was made known by the Controller and Accountant General, Seidu Kotomah in a statement saying;

“The Controller and Accountant General wishes to inform all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies that an amount of GHS 10,000.00 (ten thousand Ghana cedis) each has been transferred into the Sub Consolidated Fund (Sub CF) account of the assemblies to celebrate Ghana’s 60th Independence Anniversary.”

Mr. Kotomah pointed out that the amount is part of the outstanding disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund and that the respective Fund Administrators should be sure to deduct the said sum from the outstanding debt before making the transfer. He said;

“Management of the assemblies should note that this amount is part of the outstanding disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund.”

“In view of the above, the District Assemblies’ Common Fund administrator is being requested to deduct (the) same amount from the outstanding payments of the Common Fund for each assembly before transferring the balance to them.”

Within corporate Ghana, The Ghana Chamber of Mines has donated a whopping GHc 2 million while The Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) has given a modest GHc 250,000.

Donations are made to the 30-memeber planning committee set up by President Akufo-Addo.
