A video that went viral of a cameraman facing president Akufo-Addo directly to take his shots, during the president’s maiden state of the nation address, has generated huge discussions in the media.

Many have questioned why there seems to be continuous breach of security protocol around the president of the republic, particularly at public functions. Speaking with 3FM News, Major General Nii Carl Coleman (Retd) charged the security operatives to do more, in providing adequate security for the first gentleman of the land.

“I have serious concerns with the way we handle our security generally. It looks like in this country everybody thinks that he or she has a right to do whatever he wants to do, he is doing his duties.

You present serious security dilemma for the security operatives if you don’t adhere to the rules of the game.” He added, “The security operatives need to go back to the drawing board as far as their security plans are concerned. This is the number one gentleman of the land and we must ensure that everything possible is done to give him that protection”.

Major Gen. Coleman believes it will be too risky for the country if the security allows people to get too close to the president especially at public functions.

“Getting too close to the president is a serious risk, and I don’t think that anywhere in this world where they take security serious will allow such things to happen”.

He noted “And I have always said that in this modern times, you don’t need to be that close to be able to get a good shot, we should keep them away as far as possible and at the same time allowing them enough room to do their work”.
