This was after the Sunyani Traditional Council has kicked against his nomination by President Nana Akufo-Addo Wednesday.

At a press conference Thursday, the chiefs revived claimed the NPP man disrespected the traditional authority after the Paramount Chief, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri, in October 2016, declared support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Mahama.

But the NPP condemned the paramount chief, describing his endorsement as unfortunate, unacceptable and a breach of the country’s constitution.

The Regional Chairman of the NPP. Mr Asomah-Cheremeh said, the Chief “stooped to the lowest level to call on residents of the region to endorse the Presidency of Mahama”.

He was reprimanded by the Council and asked to apologies to the Sunyani chief which he refused. This conduct by the NPP man, the Traditional Council said had undermined the authority of the Sunyani Omanhene.

Based on this backdrop, when Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh was named the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, the chief vehemently disagreed and are thus calling on the president to withdraw his nomination.

The NPP in the region has also stated unequivocally that they will never apologize for chiding the Sunyani chief for dabbling in politics.

But, the people in the town mostly supporters of the NPP seem to have taken a different position by coming out in their numbers to welcome their ‘hero’.
