He said if that happened, Ghanaians would be mortgaging their future.

“I am urging you to make a decision that will secure your future. Two days ago, a thermonuclear bomb hit the earth with the election of Donald Trump as the president of the USA. We all have to pray. Let us not make the same mistake in Ghana, because if we do we will be mortgaging our future and the future of our children.”

The veteran member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has also stated that the educational policy of the government is underpinned by the United Nations declaration of education for all.

To that end, he said President John Mahama’s administration was jealously pursuing an agenda to ensure greater access in the education sector.

“How do you ensure education for all if you don’t make space available for everybody to get education? …As for freebies they are nice. I was in the university in 1971. … In our time, the population was about nine million. There was only one law faculty, which admitted 40 students a year. Today the GIMPA Law Faculty alone is taking about 500 law students per year. If you pay allowances to 40 law students, how are you going to pay allowances to 500 law students? Multiply that with the 13 law faculties we have in Ghana now, how are you going to do it?” he asked.

Prof Ahwoi, a member of the Chief of Staff’s entourage touring the Eastern Region campaigning for the re-election of President Mahama, was addressing students of the Abetifi College of Education.

Students of colleges of education across the country are unhappy with the cancellation of training allowances. Government has explained it had to take that decision to expand admissions.
