Reconciling With Afoko Will Be In NPP’s Interest

A Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be on the winning side should they reconcile with their suspended National Executives.

National Chairman, Paul Awentime Afoko; General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and Second National Vice-Chairman, Sammy Crabbe all executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were suspended last year by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party for acting against the constitution of the Party.

At the ruling, presiding judge on the case, Justice Anthony Yeboah said lawyers for Paul Afoko failed to prove that the party made a mistake in the procedures used in suspending him.

In an interview on OKAY FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ morning show, Dr. Bossman Asare insisted that it would be a bonus for the NPP should they fight for the comeback of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong.

Reacting to the final ruling by the Human Rights Court in Accra on the dispute between the embattled former Chairman and the NPP, Dr. Bossman Asare argues that the party has disciplined the embattled Chairman for far too long and it is important that he is re-instated to help the fortunes of the party.

According to him the suspended leaders of the party are key personalities who have their own followers as such their supporters would automatically not vote for the NPP should their leaders depart from the party.

The court held that the case brought before it by the suspended Chairman had no justification, and therefore refused to grant the plaintiff any of the reliefs (8) he sought.

The suspended Chairman sued the party in December last year, claiming his suspension was a breach of the NPP’s constitution.

He further filed a joint suit against the party’s Acting Chairman, Freddie Blay.

Mr. Afoko prayed the court to challenge the constitutional right of the party’s Disciplinary Committee to suspend him.

The court on Monday, August 15, 2016 dismissed Mr. Afoko’s suit which therefore paves way for the NPP to effectively campaign for Election 2016 without any legal blocks from the former Chairman.
