Quashigah Livid Over Ploy By Government To Allegedly Reserve 30,000 Jobs For NPP Boys

The Member of Parliament for Keta constituency in the Volta region, Richard Quashigah has lashed out at the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) over an alleged ploy to recruit grassroot members to man public facilities across the country.

The concerns of the Keta legislator follow a Daily Guide publication that revealed a memo purported to have been forwarded from the NPP national headquarters to Regional, Constituency and branch chairmen asking for a compilation of lists of NPP members in their respective jurisdiction to be considered for avenues in public and state institutions across the country.

At least 30,000 of such avenues have been reserved for members and supporters of the party, and as such the youth are to be trained in the coming weeks and employed as revenue collectors at various toll booths across the country, the publication said.

But the Keta legislator is livid that the situation will lead to inequality in the society, insisting that the planned move by the party in power will prevent a fair and just society that practically provides equal opportunity in even limited and rare job openings within the State apparatus for every Ghanaian.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Monday, Mr. Quashigah said the publication raises alarm because the newspaper is seemingly an unofficial mouthpiece of the NPP and the ruling government which cannot be taken for granted in the said publication.

“If that is the case then the NPP has an agenda of actually reserving employment avenues within the public institutions and state agencies for only those that they see as NPP members.

And that is very dangerous to our country. This country belongs to all of us and if that is the way to go, I think it will be inappropriate, wrong, unjustifiable and will breed inequality in this country.

Apart from that this constitution, in the preamble talks about ensuring social justice, prosperity and creating equal opportunity for all. And the President, Nana Akufo-Addo has been forthright on creating fair and just society where government is honest, where the rule of law works for all and where there is social justice. And if the Daily Guide owned by Freddy Blay is publishing this then it gives us a cause for worry.”
