Security personnel involved in the Special Voting exercise have expressed anger and disappointment at the conduct of the Electoral Commission after they could not find their names in the Special Voting registration list.

According to them, they have been referred to more than two polling stations yet they have not been able to see their names in the special voting list and that means they are being deprived of exercising their rights as citizens.

“I woke up as early as 3:30am. I got to Kaneshie and I didn’t see my name in the list so I was referred to Tesano. I didn’t see my name in there too. Asking what I should do, the EC official said I should wait until 7th Dec but I have been stationed at Kumasi on an election duty so there is no way I can exercise my right, I am being deprived of my right” one angry personnel told Adomonline’s Gershon Mortey.

Another officer corroborated the report.

She said, “My name is not on the list of all the stations I have been to. I have a duty to serve on Dec 7. So it’s either I vote today or never” she said.

Meanwhile, the EC has directed security personnel and other persons who could not find their names on the special voters list to visit the District offices of the EC for the discrepancies to be corrected.

Many security personnel have complained of missing names in the special voters’ register.

But the head of Communication at the EC has explained that the commission compiled the special voters list based on the information they received from the various institutions.

He indicated that the names may have been switched.

“When we compiled the first list, we found out that people’s names were not in the list or were in different places but we were able to do it. The data input could be the problem,” he stated.
