In his concessionary speech after Ghana’s Electoral Commission(EC) declared winner of the just ended polls on Friday, Mr Mahama said: “We must do our part to ensure the progress of all our past governments from the very first one led by our founder, Dr Kwame Nkrumah to this most recent one that I have led continues because progress does not happen all at once.”

However, he said his contributions to the development of this country leaves an indelible mark on the annals of the political dispensation, believing that he led a remarkable regime in his time as President of the West African nation.“I will leave it to history to be the judge of my time and contributions while in that highest office.”

“We’ve always recognised that we are all ultimately on the same side, the side of Ghana“.

“I pray that as we move forward even as we voice our differences and possibly even disagree on agendas and decisions and other details of governance, we must always keep in mind the fact that our shared destiny and the undeniable possibilities of our powers exist in our unity”.

The Mahama-led NDC government lost the elections to main opposition leader, and three-time Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo in a historic polls held this week.

Although the official declaration of results by the Election Management Body(EMB) in the successful polls dragged a bit, the commission was within range announcing the outcome in almost 72hrs after elections.

President-elect won the polls by 5,716, 026 votes representing 53.85%, toppling incumbent President John Dramani Mahama who polled 4,713,277 representing 44.04%.

The former Foreign Minister and Attorney General under the erstwhile Kufour admninistration’s victory, comes after his third attempt at the presidency, having contested in the 2008 and 2012 elections.

His victory has sparked wild jubilation across the country with NPP supporters taking over the streets of the capital, Accra, and his party’s stronghold- Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital.
