The PPP sued the Electoral Commission (EC), at the High Court over its decision to disqualify its presidential aspirant, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, from the December 7 presidential election on Friday.

The PPP is seeking “an order of prohibition to restrain the EC from proceeding with balloting for position of presidential candidates for the 7th December elections.”

Speaking to Citi News, Kofi Siaw said the PPP is ready to settle the case out of court.

“The Commission on its own can also resolve its matter outside of court by revising their decision and then we can proceed…The issue has to do with how the EC intends to move forward with this kind of situation. If they want court process, obviously it will cost them some days and some weeks. If they want it outside court, then we can also settle it outside the court then all of us can have our peace.”

While admitting that the PPP’s suit may affect the electoral calendar, the Policy Advisor of the PPP, Kofi Asamoah Siaw, further asked the Commission to cease any activity in preparation for the December polls.

“I don’t know what time the EC wanted to distribute the ballot but obviously our application is restraining the EC from going ahead with such things. There is a possibility that the calender will be affected.”

We’ll continue campaigning – Nduom

He also added that Dr Nduom will continue campaigning despite his disqualification.

“We are not waiting for the case to be determined before we campaign obviously we have the strongest conviction that we have a case and that we will be back on the ballot. Because we don’t want to lose time, we are campaigning anyway.

We were in Akatsi, Anloga and the Keta areas last week.

“This week we have a campaign schedule going ahead so for us while we have divided attention to pursue this matter to the logical conclusion, we are also conscious of the fact that we need to campaign and therefore we are not stopping.”
