PPP Members Defect To NDC

Some members of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in the Ashanti Region claim they have defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to what they call “incompetent leadership and dictatorship” within the party.

They added that they were attracted to the NDC because of the splendid leadership style of President John Dramani Mahama, who they say is focused, a unifier and leads with listening ears as well as the unprecedented achievements he had chalked within his first term in office as a president.

A former Deputy Ashanti Regional Organiser and the current Germany Chapter Patron, Mr Kwabena Amoateng, former Bantama Constituency Secretary and current Communications Member of the party, Mr Kofi Amoateng and the 2012 PPP Parliamentary candidate for Atwima Kwanwoma led the group to announce their defection to the NDC.

PPP Chairman

However, when reached for his comments, the PPP Regional Chairman, Mr Lawrence Appiah, told the Daily Graphic that “they are not known members of the party, neither do they contribute anything to the party”.

He said surprisingly, he was in a meeting with the Bantama executives discussing a programme and that they all expressed shock at the news of the defection of those three and others claiming to be members of the PPP.

Defection

Although the defectors claimed to be over 120, only the three exhibited their PPP party cards to the media while the remaining members, among them some already wearing NDC T shirts, cheered in support.

Addressing the media, Mr Amoateng noted that “we are here today to denounce our membership of the PPP and express our displeasure at the party. We are numbered about 120 fellows who feel aggrieved and unhappy about the following; leadership of PPP, lack of logistics and financial support for party activities and mistrust in the party”.

He explained that they were amazed at the numerous projects such as the community day senior high schools, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra, Kasoa Interchange, expansion at Kotoka International Airport, expansion of rural electrification, access to potable water for both urban and rural areas and the construction of numerous hospitals dotted around the country.

He said it was for these and many other reasons that made them to join the NDC and help the party achieve the 1.5 million votes target in the Ashanti Region.

Mr Amoateng added that they also wanted to prove to the general public that the NDC was not a discriminatory group who deal only with people based of their sex, educational background or religious affiliation.
