Police in Salaga have begun full scale investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident involving a Progressive People’s Party branded campaign vehicle which killed three people, Wednesday.

Salaga Police Commander DSP Kofi Amenu told Joy News the driver of the vehicle reported himself to the police shortly after the incident happened and has been granted bail.

The deceased, two men and a female were reported to be riding on the same motorbike when the PPP campaign vehicle with registration number GT 2926 – 12 run into them.

All of them died on the spot, a reporter Christopher Amoako narrated.

The PPP has since confirmed the incident but denied earlier reports that the vehicle in question was part of the convoy of the party’s flagbearer Papa Kwesi Nduom.

A statement issued by the party said the deceased persons were members of the party who were heading to a rally organised by the PPP.

Richmond Keelson who speaks for the flagbearer said the party deeply regrets the incident and will contribute to giving the deceased persons a befitting burial.

He attributed to the bad roads in the area which he said was dusty

He commiserated with the families of the deceased persons and assured that Dr Kwesi Nduom will be present to mourn with the families.

Even though the circumstances surrounding the accident are sketchy, there are suggestions the driver of the vehicle must be prosecuted.

DSP Kofi Amenu in an interview said the driver has given his account of what happened and blamed the accident on a steering lock.

He said the police will investigate the circumstances under which the accident happened and present the dockets to the Attorney General for advice.

“The vehicle needs to be tested first to ascertained what happened,” he said.

He said the driver was bailed and cautioned because the police cannot infringe on his right but provisional charges have been filed against him.
