The House is expected to wrap up activities of the sixth Parliament of the fourth Republic, which will be dissolved on Friday, January 6, 2017. Kate Addo who spoke to Citi News, revealed that the RTI bill will be considered before Parliament is dissolved on Friday. The Public Affairs Deputy Director said the bill is at the stage where people are bringing out the flaws of the Bill in order to ensure that we have a law is airtight when it is passed.

She said that apart from the RTI bill, Parliament will also consider the Spousal Property Rights Bill which has not been passed, as well as other bills including the Chieftaincy Bill.

The sixth Parliament will officially be dissolved on January 6 – same day outgoing President John Mahama will deliver his final State of the Nation Address. The Final State of The Nation Address is in fulfillment of Article 67 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution which states that the President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation.

The last address is also to herald the end of the life of the 6th Parliament of the fourth republic. Kate Addo has explained that minutes after the life of the sixth Parliament stands dissolved, the next one is activated by the inauguration ceremony, which will take place on the midnight of the seventh.
