This follows a new report by the World Bank which shows that one million jobs will be available in Ghana’s construction sector between 2015 and 2020.

Ghana’s Construction Sector grew by 4.9% in the first quarter of 2016, employing about 5,723 since 2015. It is in this light that the Youth Inclusive Entrepreneurial Development Initiative for Employment (YIEDIE) was created to help provide jobs for Ghanaians in the construction industry.

YIEDIE is a five year, aimed at creating  economic opportunities in Ghana’s construction sector for the economically disadvantaged.

In an interview with Citi Business News, the Project Director for YIEDIE, Kafui Mills – Odoi said the initiative has since directed its focus to training youth with the needed skills to work in the construction sector.

She noted that, an increased in support from The Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations will see to the quick employment of youth in the sector.

“I think the good thing we have now and what we are buying into is governments plan for youth employment and so we are looking at policies that government has put in place,” she said.

“We are pushing for increased government support for 17-24 year olds. Maybe with more credit and then we are looking for opportunities for them to be part of the big projects that are being done, especially for  those that are in schools and have been trained,” she added.

Madam Mills – Odoi said disclosed that negotiations with the Ministry for Employment and Labor Relations for increase in support  has commenced.

“We are engaging to Ministry for Employment and Labor Relations to support us extensively to support us in doing that,” she said
