UK ambassador to Ghana, Jon Benjamin has joined several others across the across and continent to express his condolence to the Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II and the Asanteman Council on the demise of the Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwa Ampem II.

Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, died at the age of 111 in November 2016, and will be buried in Breman on Thursday.

The ambassador, who is well known for his open diplomacy attended the funeral ceremony of the late Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom in Kumasi today, Monday, 16th January 2016 indicating that it was an honour for him to attend.

He explained the link between the two Countries saying that the histories of Ghana and Britain are intertwined for both the good and bad reasons.

He also noted that the Asante Kingdom has a good rapport with the UK which has existed for a long time.

Ghana gained independence from the British in 1957.

As part of the arrangements for the burial of the Queen mother, no one is to be seen on the streets from Bantama to Breman from 6:00 pm of Thursday, January 19, to 3:00am of Friday 20th January.

The late Queen mother of the Asante kingdom, Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II is lying in state at the Manhyia Palace, where mourners will be permitted to file past her body until when she will be buried on Thursday.
