‘Only Myopic Thinkers Will Doubt One Village, One Dam Policy’

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central has hit hard at critics questioning the feasibility of the one-village, one-dam policy in Northern Ghana by leader of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo.

In his view, those doubting the viability especially ministers in the Mahama-led government of the policy are “myopic thinkers” not fit to be in government.

The policy announced by the NPP leader whilst addressing the Bolgatanga Traditional Council in the Upper East Region has been scrutinised questioning the practicality of the policy.

Nana Akufo-Addo said if voted into office in December, his government would implement a policy to sink a dam in every village in the three northern regions – Northern, three East and Upper West regions – as part of its measures to enhance agricultural productivity in the Savanna regions.

Critics who doubt its feasibility said it is simply too expensive and impracticable to build a dam in every village.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Ken Agyapong said, he is not surprised at the doubting Thomas’s in the NDC.

Rather, he noted that, their conduct rather exposes them as not being “great thinkers” which explains why Ghana is wallowing in abject poverty.

“We don’t need these myopic thinkers in the country but I’m not surprised, if you have ministers who are bereft of ideas, this is what happens” he stressed.

The outspoken MP said government can partner with private sector, support them with the fund to build the dams.

Ken Agyapong said the policy is more than possible and an Akufo-Addo led government will make it a reality if voted to power in the December 7 general elections.
