One more person has suffered severe cutlass wounds in what is believed to be a retaliatory attack after last Friday’s skirmishes at the University of Cape Coast.

The victim, was said to have been accosted by unidentified students who inflicted severe cutlass wounds on him.

The latest attack follows violence between students of the Oguaa Hall of the University of Cape Coast on one side and VANDALS of the University of Ghana, Unity Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as well as ATL Hall of the University of Cape Coast on the other.

Three students were said to have been stabbed with another reportedly left paralyzed in the ensuing clashes.

It is not immediately clear what may have caused the misunderstanding but Joy News’ Central Region correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko said students from the three halls attempted to enter the Ogua hall but they were resisted by residents of that hall because some of them were naked.

This may have led to the clashes. According to Nyarko apart from the human casualties, several other properties including buses, cars owned by lecturers were all destroyed.

It had to take the police to intervene to restore calm.

Both the Unity Hall and the VANDALS had been invited by residents of the ATL for a program but that later turned bloody.

Two days later, another student, a Muslim, who had gone for dawn prayers Monday, was attacked.

Police say the victim in the latest attack, suffered head wounds with cuts on his legs and arms. He is responding to treatment at the Cape Coast hospital.

The UCC Police said the situation on campus is under control.

Investigations by Richard Kojo Nyarko indicate that ‘foreign’ students have been banned from the University of Cape Coast and it was to the surprise of many that the VANDALS as well as the Unity Hall students found their way into the campus of the UCC.

Meanwhile, the police and authorities of the country’s universities have been asked to be more proactive if the culture of hooliganism on campuses is to be controlled.

Security expert Dr Kingsley Agyei said even though such gatherings cannot be banned, it must be strictly guarded.
