They are the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin, the Paramount Chief of the  Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area and Nana Otubea II, the Paramount Queenmother of the Nkonya Traditional  Area.

Eastern Regional House of Chiefs

“The Okyenhene and the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs wish to congratulate her excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings on making history as the first woman to contest  the position of the president of the Republic of Ghana”, a statement from the Okyenhene declared.

The Okyenhene further remarked that her appearance on the ballot paper symbolised the growth and progress of participatory and inclusive democratic governance.

“Okyeman salutes Nana Konadu for putting herself in history among outstanding female leaders such as Yaa Asantewaa of Ashanti and Nana Dokua of Akyem Abuakwa whose remarkable sacrifices had been a symbol of national pride. Nana Konadu’s contribution towards alleviating the plight of the underprivileged, particularly women and children, over the past two decades as the first lady is unprecedented”, the Okyenhene added.

Comfort of office

In the view of the Okyenhene, Nana Konadu ignored the comfort of office and thus established a remarkable and endearing  instrument for women emancipation through the 31st December Women’s  Movement and by that effort had become a symbol of unsung heroines of Ghanaian womanhood.

The Okyenhene further stated that having personally shown predilection towards alleviating poverty,  Nana Konadu’s desire  to lead Ghana was re-assuring.

The Okyenhene used the opportunity to call on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that the December 7 general election expressed the will and aspirations of Ghanaians.

Nkonya traditional area

For her part, Nana Otubea of Nkonya congratulated Nana Konadu on “being the first female candidate to run for the president in the history of Ghana”.

“On behalf of the queenmothers of the Nkonya Traditional Area, I would like to wish you well in all your endeavours”, she stated.
