The durbar was part of initiatives being undertaken by the Omanhene of the Obogu Traditional Area, Nana Oduro Apenteng Darkwa III, who was installed eight months ago, to bring development to the town.

Besides establishing a senior high school, the people of Obogu are also intent on undertaking a number of development activities aimed at ensuring the growth of the town.

At the end of the event, about GH¢65,000 was realised.

The durbar was attended by officials from the Forestry Commission, dealers in lumber and lumber products, citizens of Obogu, as well as natives of Obogu based in the United Kingdom and known famously as 22 Citizens of Obogu.

Nana Darkwa, 54, known in private life as Dr Ben Nathan Donkor, is the Executive Director of the Timber Industry Development Division (TIDD) of the Forestry Commission.

Absence of SHS

Addressing the citizens of the town at the durbar, Nana Darkwa said education was the best legacy parents could bequeath to their children, adding that it was a catalyst for development in every community.

He said he was optimistic that when the school was fully operational, it would provide the necessary incentive for children in Obogu to attend school and acquire knowledge and skills capable of helping them to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of the country.

He commended the sub-chiefs and people of Obogu for their support and urged them to maintain the spirit of unity.

Unity

A representative of the Asantehene, Baffour Agyei Fosu Twitwikwa II, commended the Omanhene of Obogu and the chiefs of the traditional area for their development initiative.

He urged them to continue to seek progress for the town and assured the gathering of the support of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He encouraged citizens of Obogu (both home and abroad) to make significant contributions toward efforts to develop the town and surrounding communities.

A Special Aide to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Daniel Kafui Wudome, on behalf of the minister, Mr John Peter Amewu, commended the Omanhene of Obogu for his foresight.

He said the ministry was ready to help the town in its mission to develop and contribute its quota to the nation’s progress.
