New Patriotic Party, (NPP)’s parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei North, Fuseini Issah has been declared winner of the constituency’s parliamentary seat.

Fuseini Issah wins Okaikwei North with a very significant margin of over 4,000 votes after polling an overwhelming 28,083 votes to beat his major opponent, NDC’s Abdul-Razak Issah who managed 23,617 votes.

Fuseini Issah will therefore take over from the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament, Elizabeth Sackey who declined contesting the party’s primaries ahead of the elections.

Despite being a first time aspirant, Fuseini Issah’s win came as no big surprise to him as he had earlier vowed to win the seat with a wide margin of 5,000 votes. This he had said in an interview with Citi News, pointing out the reasons behind his expectations to be the thorough and vigorous campaign he carried out in the constituency, as well as the NPP’s unanimous determination to vote out the Mahama-led administration.

Other candidates in the parliamentary race for the constituency; Joseph Akoto Lantey of the All People’s Congress (APC) polled 60 votes, while Matthew Kwesi Obeng of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) polled 156 votes.

Meanwhile, the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo also took the lead in the presidential poll in Okaikwei North, having polled 28,639 votes with President John Mahama coming second with 23,077 votes.

Convention People’s Party’s (CPP), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet polled 41 votes. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) polled 24 and 194 votes respectively. The People’s National Convention’s (PNC) Edward Mahama polled 13 votes with the only independent candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah polling 7 votes.

257 ballots were rejected out of the total of 51,995 valid votes cast.
