NPP Will Rather Build Dams Than Buy V8 For Chiefs – Mustapha Hamid

A spokesperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, has maintained that the ‘One Village, One Dam’ policy in Northern Ghana would be a better use of the nation’s resources than the procurement of cars for chiefs.

According to Mustapha Hamid, rather than buying four wheel drive vehicles for chiefs, an Akufo-Addo-led government will build dams to boost agriculture in deprived areas of the country like the three northern regions.

Many critics are questioning the feasibility of the NPP’s latest policy proposal announced by its flagbearer whilst addressing the Bolgatanga Traditional Council in the Upper East Region.

Nana Akufo-Addo said if voted into office in December, his government would implement a policy to sink a dam in every village in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions – as part of measures to enhance agricultural productivity in the Savanna regions.

Since the announcement, some critics have questioned the viability of the policy, saying it is simply too expensive and impracticable to build a dam in every village.

But Mustapha Hamid on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday maintained that the policy is based on science and will be done.

He said the policy will seek to replicate the agricultural successes of Burkina Faso and “we intend to make that work if voted into power”.

He said most of the villages in the north are in clusters so two or more villages can get one dam.

“What Nana Addo is talking about are small community dams…you could even have two or three dams in a village” he stated.

Mustapha Hamid urged the doubting Thomases to give the Akufo-Addo-led NPP a chance to prove them wrong by voting massively for him in the December 7 polls.
