Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Okaikoi Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region wants the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to learn from the provisional results of the Wednesday and Thursday’s general elections.
Patrick Yaw Boamah said the results show voters were punishing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its poor administration of the country.
“[The results are] a big lesson for the NPP and every politician that you are voted to serve your constituents and above all the good people of Ghana.
Ghanaians have given the NPP a clear mandate based on the wrong of the NDC,” he said.
Provisional presidential results from 206 out of 275 constituencies put NPP candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in the lead, beating the incumbent President John Mahama with more than 500,000 votes. Joy News has projected the opposition leader to win the polls.
The constitutionally mandated institution to declare the results, the Electoral Commission (EC), is yet to do so, citing its committed to getting it right.
Mr Boamah, who himself retained his set on the ticket of the NPP with more than 4,000 votes said the impending win for the NPP is telling for the Ghanaian voter’s expectation.
“This is a new direction that the Ghanaian voter is trusting – that we put you there to serve our interest, you must serve our interest.
“You must rise above corruption, you must live above pettiness, you must embrace each and everyone in this country and serve and deliver results,” he said.
He said promised to bring development to the constituency, which he said he ensure is elevated to the status of a municipality.
He advised supporters of the NPP to remain calm and wait on the EC to declare the results.
