There have been circulating rumours among NDC supporters, that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rigged the 2016 elections which saw its Flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo become the President-elect. Nana Addo polled 53.85% of the total votes cast; beating incumbent President Mahama, who trailed behind with 44.40% of votes, in the election on December 7.

But a Key member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), does not agree with the polls. Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, has claimed that the the NPP rigged the just ended 2016 general elections, as there were numerous cases of over-voting, especially in the Ashanti Region.

Though without evidence, the minister says that in the Ashanti Region, which is the stronghold of the NPP, more than one ballot paper was issued out to voters. The NDC MP revealed this during an interview with with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Friday, December 16.

According to him, in some polling stations, some polling agents of the NDC were stationed away from the polling officers issuing ballot papers. This he said, gave the leeway for officers to hand over more than one ballot paper to voters.

He also stated that in the polling stations in the Ashanti Region, there were cases of over-voting which they had to let go, to avoid creating problems for the country. Afotey Agbo also stated that the reason why the NDC lost several parliamentary seats, was because some of the her members intentionally campaigned against the party.

Having made his points, Afotey Agbo assured that the same mistakes would not be made again.
