Controversial lawmaker John Oti Bless has descended heavily on the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing it of discrimination.
This, he said, is evident in the party’s failure to endorse the presidential bid of the late vice president, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, after the tenure of John Kufuor.
The late Aliu Mahama, in 2007, joined sixteen other stalwarts of the NPP to contest the party’s flagbearership for the 2008 elections, which was subsequently won by Nana Akufo-Addo, the party’s presidential candidate for this year’s election.
Speaking at President John Mahama’s campaign tour of the Northern region Tuesday, Mr. Oti Bless called on Ghanaians to reject the NPP because it is divisive..
“The baton was handed to Atta Mills when he was a vice president.. he’s Fante and from the Central region but when Kufuor was leaving office, he didn’t hand over to Aliu Mahama but rather to Akufo-Addo and when Atta Mills was president , John Mahama was his vice .. He’s Gonja and from the Northern region…what I want to say is, the NDC doesn’t discriminate, so whether you are Dagaati, Fafra, Ashanti, Akyem, Busanga, Gonja, Konkomba, Bafari or Ewe, you are capable of becoming a president on the ticket of the party so I encourage you to vote for John Mahama,” he said.
Mr. Bless, whose deputy ministerial appointment hangs in the balance said the NDC, unlike the NPP offers opportunity to all, despite ones background or heritage.
President John Mahama is currently in the Northern region as part of his campaign to be retained in the upcoming elections.
