Speaking at a press conference dubbed “Setting the records straight” Tuesday at the party headquarters, Transport Minister, Fifi Kwetey debunked accusations by the NPP that the NDC was fond of inflating project costs.

He said when the NPP claimed that the NDC had inflated the cost of projects such as the expansion of the Ridge Hospital, the Kasoa interchange, the Salaga Hospital and many others, it was all a lie.

He further stated that, the NPP is a party of consistent hypocrisy and of double standards.

Fifi Kwetey accused the NPP government under President John Agyekum Kufuor of recklessly dissipating a whopping $750 million it raised from Ghana’s first Eurobond in 2007.

He explained that out of the $750 million, a total of $107.2 million was spent on the payment of pensions and salaries; $6.8 million to facilitate salaries; $148 million for the importation of crude oil; $14.79 million was spent to meet immediate expenditure; $10 million transferred to government and $14.8 million to settle judgement debts.

The forum comes two weeks after NPP Vice-Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia addressed a lecture during which he accused the government borrowing of excessively, overpricing of contracts and corruption. He also branded the Mahama-led government as incompetent.
