The National Health Insurance Authority has reached an agreement with a group of New Patriotic Party youth  who locked up two offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme in Tamale and Sagnerigu to protest the continuous stay in office of four officials.

The four officials said to be National Democratic Congress members and appointed under the John Mahama-led government, are not to step foot in their respective offices again, the two sides have agreed.

It is unclear whether the agreement constitute the dismissal or transfer of the four officials.

A group of NPP youth on February 3, invaded the premises of the Tamale and the Nagnerigu Health Insurance Scheme offices in the Northern Region and locked the offices to demand the removal of the managers and their public relations officers.

Tamale Metro Manager of the Scheme, Abdul-Salam Mohammed, was an MP aspirant for the Tamale North Constituency where he contested the Member of Parliament, Alhassan Suhuyini, in the NDC primary.

The public relations officer for the Tamale Scheme, Issah Abdul-Nasir, according to the group, is an NDC activist.

They also claimed Abdulai Alhassan who is the District Scheme Manager and Mohammed Basit Suhuyini a public relations officer at the Sagnerigu Scheme, are NDC activists.

The NPP group consequently wants the four removed from their post, hence their decision to lock up the two offices which crippled the operations of the two Schemes.

But the management of the Health Insurance Authority represented by Issah Hudu arrived in Tamale on February 6 prevail on the NPP youth to allow the offices to be opened to the public who were affected by the three-day closure.

After discussions negotiations, the two sides agreed the four officials will no more be allowed into their offices anymore, consequent to which the youth group handed over the keys to the officers were handed to the NHIA.

When the offices were eventually reopened to the public Tuesday, the four did not report to duty, but staff of the Scheme were busily attending to subscribers who turned up to access services

In a related development, just a handful of workers reported to work Tuesday at the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority where the same youth group locked up the offices on Monday morning.

Most head of departments were yet to report to work at the time of filing this report.
