The Eastern Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken a swipe at the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration claiming that whilst they failed in initiating the Special Initiative (PSIs) project, the NDC successfully revived the Komenda Sugar factory to grow the economy.
Mr. Hackman Kabore however admitted that the only challenge the NDC faced in reviving the Komenda Sugar factory was the lack of funds to purchase raw materials to feed the factory.
Speaking on ATV’s Asem Yi Di Ka show, Mr. Kabore explained that the former NDC administration sent a proposal to Parliament detailing reasons they would need $25million to invest into the factory.
Although the appeal failed to materialize, it showed the extent to which the NDC government cared about the economy he said.
He however poured scorn on the NPP for not effectively managing the President’s Special Initiative (PSIs) which Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten presided over as Trade and Industry Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration.
In an another development, the Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has expressed disappointment in the previous NDC government’s failure to raise the much-needed capital to resuscitate the Komenda Sugar Factory.
According to him, contrary to reports that the Komenda Sugar Factory was in production; “there’s no start-up capital as well as raw materials for the production of sugar”, hence the inability of the factory to produce sugar on a large scale.
