The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) maintains the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Eric Opoku, is to blame for the bloody clashes at Asunafo South constituency that left several persons with various degrees of injuries.

The party’s parliamentary candidate George Yaw Boakye, accuses the minister who is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate of the area, of fueling violence to smoothen his way to victory ahead of the December 7 polls.

According to him, Eric Opoku has gained notoriety in engaging the services of thugs in fomenting trouble in the constituency aimed at intimidating NPP supporters and when they are arrested by the security agencies, he facilitates their release.

“He is shielding criminals and political gangsters from the law whenever they commit such heinous crimes and are been chased by the police”, he alleged.

On Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkra, he faulted the minister for the constant hostilities in the area warning that the party will rise up to protect its members if the security agencies fail to.

It would be recalled that 3 tree persons got injured Wednesday after a Voter Transfer exercise at Asunafo South in the Brong Ahafo Region was invaded by unknown persons.

The machete-wielding assailants also destroyed computers, television sets, tables and chairs at the opposition party officer.

But the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the area, George Yaw Boakye, believes the attackers are from the camp of the NDC.

“There was a queue of about 40 applicants and the NDC came with a pickup load of people to do the transfer but when they came they thought the queue of 40 people were members of NPP and therefore if they [EC] should allow the 40 people to go through the process, it would be difficult for the people they [NDC] brought to go through the process.

“So in order to prevent the first 40 people from going through the process, they decided to do what they did,” Mr. Boakye narrated.

He said although the Police have been informed, the attackers are yet to be arrested because the regional minister who doubles as Member of Parliament for the area is manipulating the police.

“Eric Opoku has turned this place into a jungle…there’s a total break in law and order,” he said.

“The minister protects criminals from the law and this is making Asunafo South very unsafe for residents,” he added.
