No Plot To Seize Ex-UFP Leader’s Cars

The Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied allegations he is planning on confiscating the vehicles of Dr Agyenim Boateng (Gyataba), a former presidential aspirant of the United Front Party (UFP) in the 2016 elections.

His denial comes on the back of an allegation levelled against him by Dr Agyenim Boateng that he (Obiri Boahen) had conspired with his nephew, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), and some youth of the NPP to seize his cars under the guise of retrieving stolen state cars in the possession of private individuals.

Gyataba, while speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday February 21, said: “There are laws in this country and we must live within those laws. If the army commander calls me in connection with suspected stolen cars in my possession, I will go. If the Inspector General of Police calls me I will go, but if Abronye DC and Nana Obiri Boahen attempt to seize my cars, cars I duly procured, I will deal with them as armed robbers and crush them. We are not in a lawless society or under a military dictatorship.”

“Nana Obiri Boahen and his nephew Abronye DC, together with some youth of the NPP, held meetings at Manhyia in Kumasi, planning how to confiscate my cars. I want to tell them that if they attempt, I will deal with them as robbers.”

However, reacting to these comments on the same programme, Nana Obiri Boahen said: “It is never true that I held a meeting with some NPP youth in Kumasi to seize Gyataba’s cars. I am stationed at the NPP headquarters in Accra managing my own affairs and that of the party.”

“My mission at this moment is to ensure that the NPP government succeeds, my mission again is to ensure that in the next elections in 2020 the number of parliamentary seats belonging to the NDC drop further. My mission is not going about seizing Gyataba’s cars.

“Of course if there are stolen vehicles in the possession of private individuals, there is a task force set up by the government to retrieve them and they will do that accordingly.”

Upon hearing this denial, Gyataba retorted that he roped in Obiri Boahen following the involvement of his nephew in the said meeting at Kumasi.
