Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has saluted the efforts of troops confronting Boko Haram terrorists for rescuing another Chibok schoolgirl.
In a brief statement issued late on Saturday, the Nigerian leader commended the soldiers for their gallant efforts “to secure the people and territory of Nigeria” and described them as the nation’s heroes.
“No man, woman, or child will be left at the mercy of Boko Haram. This has always been our promise and we fully intend to keep it,” he said.
The Army on Saturday handed over Maryam Ali Maiyanga, the Chibok girl, with her 10-month-old son, to the Borno government after they were rescued in Pulka, an area in Gwoza district of Borno State.
She was among the more than 200 girls who were kidnapped in Government Girls’ Secondary School in Chibok, Borno, on April 14, 2014.
The Nigerian government recently negotiated the release of 21 girls, while another escaped on her own from captivity with her baby earlier. Enditem
