Just like the Worawora Rice Mill in Volta Region, the Rice Mill to be located in Assin Breku in the Central Region forms part of Nduom’s vision of alleviating the poverty and sufferings of Ghanaian farmers will make production of the Edwumawura Rice a possibility.

The sod cutting ceremony which was held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 saw traditional leaders, rice farmers and the unemployed teeming youth in attendance.

The Assin Breku Rice Mill is going to be a 100-ton rice factrory which will serve the same purpose as the 72-ton Worawora Factory which was commissioned on Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Nduom recounted how the people in the area who are mainly rice growers appealed to him to assist them when he was there recently to campaign for votes.

He bemoaned the absence of development in the area, adding that if the community works with him, he will ensure it gets the amenities it lacks. According to the popular entrepreneur, farmers in other countries are living well and could not understand why those in Ghana cannot enjoy same good living standards.

Nduom disclosed that the Assin Breku Rice Mill will be completed in April next year, after which business will commence in it. He assured the people that, after Easter, farmers will not pound rice again as machines will do that. He also said that rice farmers will be given training to be able to cultivate good and quality paddy rice.

Continuing, Dr, Nduom promised that if the business grows, combine harvesters will be brought in to replace manual harvesting by farmers; adding that he has hopes of bringing rice importation to an end by 2020. Nduom indicated that the Worawora Rice Mill Factory is currently functioning; assuring them that same will happen in the area. He thanked the chiefs for the land and his staff members for their hard work.

Managing Director of Ghana Growth Fund Company (GGFC,) the investing arm of Groupe Nduom, Mr. Kwame Ofori Asomaning, earlier lauded Dr. Nduom for his foresight vision to halt rice importation which the country spends $1.2 billion yearly.

The Sanaahene of Assin Breku, Nana Asare Baffour, who spoke on behalf of all the chiefs numbering about 49 declared their support for Dr. Nduom.

Thanking Dr. Nduom for coming to their aid, President of Assin North Rice Farmers Association, Mammoud Kwaku Oppong, said although his enterprise has received support from the African Development Bank and the Ministry of Agriculture, it still needs more funds and logistics. He expressed confidence that more farmers will benefit from Dr. Nduom’s initiative.
