Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiko has described Saturday’s campaign launch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region as a waste of time.

According to him, the event was rather a send off party because the NPP is bent on sending them into opposition.

“I don’t see their campaign launch as a message to Ghanaians but rather a send off party because they know they are going to be booted out from office after the December elections. I saw it as their own funeral” he stated on Accra based Neat FM.

The NDC in the Ashanti Region launched its campaign in Kumasi, the regional capital over the weekend.

This comes a month after the party held a manifesto launch in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The party has vowed to get at least one million votes for President John Mahama in the region which is considered a stronghold of the opposition NPP.

But Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi stressed that the Ashanti Region has been the fortress of the party since the nation came back to constitutional rule, and the party’s is aiming to get 90 percent of valid votes in the coming elections.

He pointed out that winning 90 percent of the valid votes to be cast in the region should not be difficult for the NPP to achieve, noting that with hard work, good planning and dedication, the NPP would hit the target easily.

He cautioned the party against complacency in the region, and charged the members to work assiduously to maximize votes, adding that complacency could prevent the NPP from achieving its 90 percent votes target.

Chairman Wontumi accused President Mahama and his NDC administration of drawing Ghana back in its development journey since their assumption of office.
