The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has cautioned the task-force set up by the government to desist from using ‘rough’ tactics to retrieve state properties from appointees of the former administration.

The Chief of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare, through a press release, urged former state officials in the Mahama administration to return assets, including vehicles and landed properties in their possession.

This release was intended to end days of acrimony that accompanied the retrieval of government assets by activists of the ruling party.

The measure, Apaak said was in the right direction but urged that there was the need for members of the task force to publicly declare their identities as a legitimate administrative right to prevent some faceless criminals take advantage of the gesture to harass the citizenry.

“If the government truly believes that what they are doing is legitimately right, they should let us know the identities of persons who are to go round to take back the government properties…,”

“Otherwise they are going to create a better atmosphere for armed robbers, criminals and the extreme elements of the NPP to take advantage of the current task force, which has come out of the office of the chief of staff to harass citizens of the country,” he said on Accra-based Montie FM.

The National Organizer of the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, earlier alleged that about sixteen ‘unidentified’ men believed to be military personnel, and others from the National Security, seized five vehicles from his home.

“We expect that the NPP will respect the right of the citizens. They should follow the rule of law to take persons rightfully but not this Kangaroo-Rambo style of behaviour they are introducing. We will not accept this behaviour…” he said.
