Sammy Awuku, the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has diagnosed the defeat of President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections.

Contributing to Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Sammy Awuku told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the NPP defeated the NDC in a landslide during the general elections because of the latter’s display of arrogance over Ghanaians.

According to him, any government that exhibits signs of arrogance and pride will be punished by Ghanaians because “they feel that, look, the power belongs to them. They’re giving it to you and at any point in time, they can still snatch it back from your hands.”

Sammy Awuku noted that the NDC Communicators failed to learn their lessons after defeating the erstwhile Kufour administration.

He said they rather repeated the same mistakes that the NPP committed to cede power to the Mills/Mahama administration.

“In 2008, some of Communicators focused even on the health of Professor Mills. In 2016, the NDC took so much pride . . . We should be modest even in government. Now, I’ve come to understand that no amount of development that you give them and when you finish, and exhibit acts and signs of arrogance; they will punish you.”

Sammy Awuku commended Ghanaians for voting massively for the Nana Addo-led NPP government.

“This victory is victory for all Ghanaians. The Ghanaian people punished the NDC because of their insensitivity towards their plight. They punished the NDC because it reached a point where the NDC made Ghana as their property and so you can have your say, and they will have their way . . . The ordinary Ghanaian owned the NPP’s campaign. The mistakes that we committed in 2008 and let me concede, the NDC were doing it with the speed of Usian Bolt,” he said.
