On voting day, December 7, 2016, the National Democratic Congress’ John Dramani Mahama will be third on the ballot, with the New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo taking a fifth position on the ballot paper.

The balloting was held at the EC office, Wednesday on a day that saw the Progressive People’s Party’s Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom and two other candidates who were initially disqualified being readmitted to contest the 2016 polls.

The ballot was not without drama. Representatives of the parties had wanted the parliamentary ballots to be in sync with the presidential ballots to make it easier for them to educate their supporters and to campaign for votes.

Strategist for the CPP, James Kwabena Bomfeh wanted the parliamentary positions to be maintained for the presidential but his suggestion was shot down by the EC Chair, Charlotte Osei.

After a hurriedly organised balloting, the Convention People’s Party’s Ivor Greestreet will be first on the presidential ballot which shall see six other faces on the notice of poll.

The National Democratic Party led by Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings who is making her first successful outing on the ballot after her first botched attempt in 2012 placed second on the ballot.

The NDC’s John Mahama follows on the third position with Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom placing fourth on the ballot.

The NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo is fifth with the PNC’s Edward Mahama and an independent candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah occupying the sixth and seventh places on the ballot.

With the notice of poll for presidential and parliamentary candidates completed, the EC is now back on track with the 2016 elections which is just 26 days away.
