Several reports of violent attacks on some NDC supporters by NPP supporters have flooded the media, more especially social media. Following the NPP Flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo’s victory in the elections, numerous instances of attacks on NDC supporters have been reported with the latest being the setting ablaze of a Sunyani toll booth Saturday, a bloody confrontation between an NPP supporter and an NDC supporter and the death of one NDC supporter in Dunkwa in the Central Region.

Speaking at the sidelines of the President-elect’s thanksgiving service at the Ridge Church in Accra, Mr. Asamoah-Boateng said the attacks are uncalled for and unnecessary. According to him, law and order must prevail among party followers as it is the hallmark of the NPP.

The former communications minister noted that people ought to be mindful so as not to infringe on the rights of others in the midst of celebrations. He admonished all supporters to calm down and leave matters in the hands of leaders rather than spark chaos through the violent acts they perpetrate.

“My colleagues in NPP, please calm down, and make sure your jubilation is in order…you enjoy the success but please do not extend it and hurt somebody, it is not important, what would you want to hurt somebody for? …our supporters, please let our leaders handle it”.

The police service condemned the attacks in a statement issued on Saturday, sending a caution to all engaging in such acts to refrain to avoid any sanctions. This appears however not to have stopped some NPP fanatics who still are at it.
