Already, the party is targeting to garner a whooping one million votes in the region in this year’s December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections which is just 31 days away.

At the start of his campaign tour of the region Saturday, President John Mahama said their evidence on the ground shows the NDC could win 13 out of the total 47 constituencies in the region, four of which are currently being held by the party.

“We already have four constituencies in this region and we are targeting nine more to make it thirteen. We have conducted a survey which has proven that we can win 13 constituencies in this region, and we will do exactly that,” he told party supporters at Dompoase.

President Mahama who is seeking re-election for a second term said though there is a widely held belief that the Ashanti Region is the stronghold of the NPP, parties should be voted for based on their achievements, which he said the NDC has proven under his first tenure.

“It is believed that the Ashanti region is the stronghold of the NPP, but we believe that our choice of parties should be based on achievements of a particular party and that is why the NDC is confident of our 1 million votes come December 7,” he said.

He urged the electorates to vote massively for the NDC, as it is the only united party ready to form a government, pointing out that “the others are not ready because they are still fighting in their parties. If you don’t have peace in your party, how do you govern a country?”

According to President Mahama, the NDC has by the grace of God, already won the presidential election, noting all that is left for the party to do now “is to work hard for it to materialize. “We have to win with a wide a wide margin between 54 and 57 per cent. It should not be close for some people to feel that they have been cheated and will want to take the results to court” he added.

Okofo Sobin Kan II, Chief of Dompase called on the president to complete projects started in his community “We will plead with him to also give us a community day school, so education can be improved in the Dompase community,” he pleaded, adding “We thank him for completing some of our cocoa roads and will implore him to do more and complete the rest”.
