Nana Addo’s One-Village One-Dam Possible – NDC’s Edward Bawa

The Public Relations Officer of the Energy Ministry, Edward Bawa has said the promise by the Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo to build one dam in every village in the three regions up North is achievable.

Mr Bawa who is also the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Bongo constituency in the Upper East Region is in sharp contrast to the position held by the party.

Nana Akufo-Addo, as part of plans to industrialize and transform the Ghanaian economy, indicated during his recent tour of the Central Region that his government plans to establish a factory in each of the 216 districts across the country when, God-willing, if he wins the 2016 elections.

But soon after Akufo Addo’s promise, stalwarts of the NDC including ministers have rubbished his intended policy saying it’s impracticable to have a dam in every village in all villages in the three regions up north of the country.

Others have even described him as a day dreamer who’s desperate to win power hence has resorted to churning out unrealistic campaign promises to hoodwink the Ghanaian electorate.

However speaking on Peace FM Thursday, Edward Bawa stated that Nana Akufo Addo’s promise is doable, adding that once there’s political will on the part of government and the necessary resources committed there’s nothing a government cannot do including changing a female to a male.

He nonetheless believes it is imprudent for a dam to be built in every village, adding that the way to go is to have the dams built in clusters.

” If you take my constituency, there are three villages, Kadare, Koderego and Goh which are very close to each other, it just doesn’t make sense to place a build a dam in each town. What has government done, it has decided to create one particular dam to feed the three areas. Dam constructions in themselves are good, the question is what is the approach? Is it the Van Dame approach which is one-dam one-village, or going the cluster way the government is currently going by,”Mr Bawa asked?
