Ghana’s newly elected president Akufo-Addo has continued to show in so many ways, that his purpose of contesting for Presidency is not to garner government wealth. New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has revealed that President Nana Addo rejected a $500,000 Christmas gift from a foreign company.

Speaking in an interview on Adom Tv, Ken Agyapong hailed the President for exhibiting his incorruptible nature, through his rejection of the gift. According to him, the President gave the company a go ahead to do their business in the country; but was quick to caution them against overstepping their boundaries.

Though the Assin Central MP failed to mention the name of the company who offered the gift, he commended Akufo-Addo for his exemplary act. Ken Agyapong stressed that Nana Addo would lead the country free from corrupt practices and selflessly; because, he did not contest for the leadership of the country to reduce himself to bribe taking.

Comparing the past government with the present, Kennedy Agyapong said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration were unable to exercise professionalism in such relations, which led to the prevalence of corrupt practices during their tenure.

Nana Addo indeed has shown he did not contest for presidency with an ulterior motive. During his inaugural speech on January 7, the newly elected President had urged against greed and corruption in his government. He cautioned that public office should not be  seen as an avenue to for making money.

Mr Agyapong during the interview, commended the President for advising all persons hoping to serve in his government with the sole aim of amassing wealth, to leave for the private sector.

Nana Addo’s moral grounds, as well as his promise of an anti-corrupt agenda, formed the basis for his being voted for, in the December elections. The President hopes to restore citizens’ confidence in the government by tackling corruption with full force as promised.
