Customers of DKM Microfinance Company who have their investments locked up, have urged President-elect Nana Akufo Addo, to live up to his promise of getting their locked up investments refunded. The aggrieved DKM customers say they voted massively for the President-elect based on his campaign promise to retrieve their monies.

In an interview with Citi FM, spokesperson for the DKM customers in Tamale, Mohammed Ibn Issaka said they believe the matter will be addressed by Akufo Addo. He explained that the current government has not been up to the task in addressing the matter, because many of them have been paid far below what they invested in the company.

The customers hope that as from January 7, when Nana Addo would be sworn, steps would be taken by his government to recover their monies. The customers are also demanding an investigation into the root cause of what led to the closure of DKM and other Microfinance companies.

In 2015, thousands of customers of DKM Microfinance Company lost their investments running into millions of cedis, after the Central Bank suspended the operations of DKM for violating the banking Act. DKM has been unable to pay back the monies to the people, even after central bank lifted the ban later.

Aggrieved customers who wailed and complained to no avail, felt there was some light at the end of the tunnel; when President-elect Nana Addo during his campaign, rained down promises of recovering the monies back. According to the customers, Nana Addo’s promise of reimbursing them, was the main reason why he received massive endorsement, from most of the DKM customers in the country.

Akufo-Addo on Friday 9 December, 2016 was pronounced as President-elect by the Electoral Commission. He polled 53.85% of votes in the 2016 elections, giving him an edge over the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader President Mahama, who polled 44.40% of the total valid votes.
