My Boys Sometimes Give Me Dirty Slaps – NDC Chairman

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed members of vigilante groups in the party sometimes subject him to severe beatings.

The motive for the assault, Mr. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh stated, happens when he refused to kowtow to the whims and caprices of the group.

His comment comes after a rival group in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) called Delta Force manhandled a presidential appointee in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

On Friday over 200 members of the Delta Force marched to the premises of the Ashanti Regional Security Command, broke into the offices and drove the coordinator, George Adjei out.

He was manhandled amidst shouts and chants. The aggressors broke louver blades, vandalized furniture and ransacked the office.

This action by the group has been condemned by many and their leader arrested by the police pending police investigations.

There have also been calls for such groups mostly used the NPP and NDC to be disbanded in Ghana’s body politics.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Chairman Obimpeh said such violent acts by vigilante group affiliated to political parties not peculiar to the NPP.

He indicated that as Regional Chairman “the boys beat me, hit me with sticks and even slaps me if I don’t do their bidden”.

Mr. Obimpeh said he is adamant to report their action to the police but rather begs them to stop in the interest of the NDC.

He, however, could not fathom why after all these struggles, people will blame him for their electoral defeat.

“I have suffered in the NDC; I nearly went mad after our defeat. We have 10 regions so why are they blaming only me for the defeat” he quizzed.

Chairman Obimpeh said he finds solace in God because “if we had won the 2016 elections, everyone including those on social media insulting me will be claiming credit”.
